The Hagia Sophia is an iconic landmark and former cathedral located in Istanbul, Turkey. It was originally built as a cathedral by the Roman Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century and served as the primary church of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly 1,000 years. After the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople, the Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque and served as a mosque for nearly 500 years.

In 1935, the Turkish government converted the Hagia Sophia into a museum, which it remained until 2020, when it was converted back into a mosque by the Turkish government. The Hagia Sophia is renowned for its stunning architecture and rich history, and is considered one of the greatest examples of Byzantine architecture in the world. It is also famous for its magnificent dome, which is considered a masterpiece of engineering and design, and its intricate mosaics and frescoes, which depict scenes from the Bible and other religious subjects.

Today, the Hagia Sophia is one of Istanbul’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year. It is also an important religious site for Muslims and an important symbol of Turkish culture and history.
